This tour takes you to the Mole National Park, the most important park for game viewing in Ghana. It is home to over 90 different species of animals. Mole is a 12 to 14 hour drive from Accra so we will stop over in certain cities in order to make the journey bearable. We first stop over in Kumasi to take a brief city tour and then continue to Techiman to spend the night. We will also have the opportunity to see the Kintampo waterfalls and the final two nights will be spent at the Mole National Park.
Day 1: Accra – Kumasi – Techiman
Depart Accra early morning to Kumasi. Take a visit to the Manhyia Palace Museum and the Prempeh II Museum both of which provide a good insight into Ashanti culture and traditions and also the history of the Ashanti Kingdom which is over 300 years old, similar to that of the Dahomey Empire. They provide a good knowledge of the powerful ancient Ashanti Empire and its past kings. Later visit the Kumasi Central Market – the largest open-air market in West Africa. Continue drive to Techiman. Overnight in Techiman. (B & D)
Day 2: Techiman – Kintampo – Mole
Today depart Techiman to Kintampo and take a 100 step staircase down to the spectacular waterfalls where the Pumpu River falls about seventy (70) meters down beautiful rocky steps and continues its journey towards the Black Volta at Buipe. This superb fall mysteriously disappears and resurfaces 200 meters away from its original location. After lunch, drive through the dry sahel region of Ghana to the Mole National Park in the Northern Region of Ghana. You will notice a sharp vegetation change as you travel along. Mole is 4840 square km of rolling landscape with pristine guinea savannah vegetation. Overnight in Mole. (B & D)
Day 3: Mole
Early this morning before breakfast, join the park guide for a trek to view the animals. Return to your hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, depart Mole through the ancient villages of Damongo and visit Mognori Eco-Village. Take a tour of this village and witness the process of making shea butter, the major occupation of the women. You will also take a canoe safari down the river where you will view different species of birds. After which, visit Larabanga and the historic mosque which the locals claim was built by the spirits of the ancestors and the mystery stone which the locals claim always came back even when it was moved by heavy construction machinery. Return to Mole and you will have a second chance in the late afternoon for another trek. Overnight in Mole. (B & D)
